Video lottery terminals could be making their debut in the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico.

Operator Robert Johnson, who has a route into the Caribbean, has put forward a proposal to the local Department of Treasury for a plan to replace the Puerto Rico’s illegal gaming machines with the terminals.

The project that Johnson, of Caribbean CAGE, has floated, would bring in an estimated US$14bn in revenues over the next 20 years, he maintains.

According to the Fantini Report, Puerto Rico has around 100,000 illegal gaming machines in operation and Johnson says that these could be removed and replaced with VLTs. The market could take about 30,000 of the terminals.

CAGE is an operator that works with Scientific Games, Aristocrat, IGT and Inspired and is an expert on the VLT markets in the US.
