Polish Ministry of Finance sent a letter to Apple company, wherein they stated that sharing in the App Store programs enabling gaming is illegal according to Polish law.
MoF sent the same letter to Google company. In contrast, online poker website accuses Polish Ministry of snatching IP adresses. Despite these measures Ministry of Finance apparently still can’t cope with online gaming.
After recent III European Executive Forum, President of Poland in the years 1995-2005, Aleksander Kwaśniewski remarked, that politics and economy are inseparable. In his opinion the evidence are, among others, fates of gambling companies and online gambling.
-If they were treated as normal economy areas then Poland, or rather Polish budget, could obtain significant sums from the taxation of it. The problem here is that every kind of argument is used rather than economic argument. Gambling, especially online, is basically forbidden in our country – said former president.
Last two years only confirm this thesis. It is visible that the Ministry of Finance tries to stop the development of online gambling and betting operators , which probably helps companies like Fortuna, STS, Milenium and Totolotek, who pay high taxes in our country, but by no means stop development of the whole market.
According to the rates of consulting company Roland Berger, illegal under Ministry of Finance assertion, gambling involves 90 percent of the whole online gambling and betting operators market, which is estimated at about 5 billion zł annually. Legal players add up to 10% of the market. Undisputed leader is the British company Bet365, whose shares are 40% of the whole polish betting operators market, but obviously it doesn’t pay taxes.
